Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it shares continuity with the films of the franchise and takes place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019), in which an alternate version of Loki created a new timeline. ______________ Given that Loki is the God of Mischief, it's fitting that details about his Disney+ TV show were tricky to untangle prior to the show's release. And even now, two episodes in, there's still a lot to unpack when it comes to what the TVA's introduction means for the MCU's future (and also its past). But for now, let's focus on that surprise reveal at the end of episode two. Or was it really a surprise? Diehard fans who have been following this show's development for a while now probably saw leaked set photos that revealed this twist last year. In the leaked pics, the green parts of her outfit and that gold shape on her chest were almost identical to the costume Loki wore back in the first Avengers movie. As we now know for certain, Sophia Di Martino is playing Lady Loki, a female version of the trickster god. Lady Loki hasn't appeared on screen before now, (aside from that shadowy cameo at the end of episode one), but comic book fans will already be familiar with this particular incarnation of Thor's brother. Is Lady Loki really evil or is the multiverse not as bad as the Judge makes out? What if this isn't Loki at all and it's actually the Enchantress, a classic Thor villain who dabbles in illusions and trickery too? The rumour mill certainly suggests this could be a possibility. But as long as Marvel explores Loki's gender fluidity with some actual depth on screen, we're good with whatever happens. Loki is streaming exclusively on Disney+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
